Ely Standard - Letters for Ely, Soham and the surrounding area

Was Ely Christmas Tree Tested For Public Safety
10:07 - 26 November 2009
WHAT a turn up for the books the Ely Christmas tree hasn't been up for five minutes and it blows over in the wind. What happened to health and safety? Was this tree tested for public safety issues before it was erected in a public place? I am all for artificial trees being used so long as they are safe. I am sure the tree will survive, but it was a good job the square wasn't full of people for the lights switch-on when this happened ,

SO the plastic (how green is that?) Christmas Tree lasted about 24 hours and cost thousands of pounds. Whose idea was that? Does the cost come out of our Council Tax and is anybody going to carry the can?
